New England Food Truck Festival coming to The Big E grounds this weekend

Jun 27 2018

More than 40 food trucks are expected to take part in the two-day festival in West Springfield.

How many food trucks does it take to make a food truck festival?

In the case of the New England Food Truck Festival on the grounds of the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield on Saturday and Sunday, organizer Michael Lukaszewicz said it takes more than just the 40 or so food trucks to make it a festival.

“This is our fourth year and we have continually grown, and I think we have done a better job each year. But, it’s not just about the food trucks. A true festival like ours also features musical entertainment, things for kids to do, vendors with exciting things to sell and offer and even more,” Lukaszewicz  said.

“I hope everyone will come out to have a good time and enjoy some amazing food from throughout New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania,” he added.

Lukaszewicz noted festival-goers have been asking for more things for kids to do and they have been listening to those requests.

“We’re going to have a massive inflatable kid zone with nine inflatables, the biggest  ones we could rent, including slides, a gladiator ring, and an obstacle course. We’re  also going to have a rock climbing wall,” he said.

In addition to the new children’s activities, Lukaszewicz said they have also introduced the First Annual Cornhole Tournament presented by Craftsmen of CT. The fee for the tournament is $35 per team with half of the accumulated fees going to the winning team and the other half to The Food Bank of Western Mass. “We’ve also made it our priority to expand our craft vendors, who this year number about 50 and run the gamut from handmade original products to home improvement services. Among our many vendors will be a mobile fashion boutique – think of a food truck built out with wooden flooring inside and French doors and a whole clothing assortment to choose from,” Lukaszewicz  said.

The event organizer noted food truck festivals are becoming more popular than ever before.

“What is amazing with food trucks is that you get fresh food cooked right in front of you at a time when people are demanding higher quality, and rightly so if you are spending good money on something,” Lukaszewicz  said.
