African American History Walking Tour August 11, 10:00am

Hosted by Sojourner Truth Memorial Committee and the David Ruggles Center for History and Education Sojourner Truth Memorial Park, Park St, Florence, MA 01062

Join us to learn about African-American history in Florence, MA, including Sojourner Truth’s house, abolitionist David Ruggles, and a 19th-century utopian community. We will explain what brought a progressive group of people to Florence in the 19th century, how they influenced Florence’s development, and what happened to those innovative and progressive people.

All walks start at the Sojourner Truth statue, on the corner of Park and Pine Streets in Florence at 10:00a.m. Walks last about 1 1/2 hours. Rain cancels. Our tours are free, but donations are accepted if you are able. No need to sign up ahead of time, just come and join us on a Saturday morning!

Walks will be led by Wendy Sinton (July 7, August 11), Tom Goldscheider (Sept. 8), and Steve Strimer (Oct. 13).
