Franklin County

Map showing Franklin County, MA

Franklin County is the northernmost of the three Massachusetts counties of the Pioneer Valley, and the most rural. The largest town is Greenfield (pop. 18,168 as of the 2000 census), but many towns have populations of 1,000 or less. With the end of county government in 1997, Franklin Regional Council of Governments redefined itself to offer services and expertise that it is difficult for the individual towns to access or afford on their own.
