Farmer fortunes are tied to the elements. Too much rain or too little can have the same effect: a spoiled growing season. Much of New England has been snared in drought conditions since April. The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center is forecasting that the drought could last until at least the end of February.

Grants Available for Local Farmers| Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation & Big Y supermarkets
The Recorder, January 6th, 2016. For a second year, the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation, together with Big Y supermarkets, plans to support local farmers with projects that will help improve their farm business, and is expanding the program from $75,000 to $100,000.
Western Mass ‘Buy Local’ Groups Receive State Grants

Programs to help people buy local produce in Western Massachusetts have received new state grants. “The Buy Local program ensures that Massachusetts residents have access to nutritious, locally grown products, and provides opportunities for continued economic and agricultural development throughout the Commonwealth,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew Beaton in a statement.
New Farm Grant for GCC Student Internships

A community college association has awarded Greenfield Community College, Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture, and the Franklin Community Co-op $25,000 to fund paid internships for six GCC students at the local agriculture promoters and the co-op business.
