Chicopee Cultural Council wants advice on how to spend money for the arts

CHICOPEEĀ – The Cultural Council is asking residents for their input on what art, music, humanities and science cultural programs they want to see in the city.

Every year the city receives money from the Massachusetts Cultural Council to be distributed through individual grants for to fund concerts, art shows, children’s events, field trips and other activities. This year the council has received about $34,000 to distribute to individuals and organizations.

The council receives far more applications than it has money so it is seeking residents’ opinions on how to best spend the money to benefit the city. Members want to know what cultural activities are missing from the community, how existing ones have benefited them and they want to hear new ideas on how the money should be spent.

The Cultural Council will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 28 in the community room of the Chicopee Public Library. People can also email ideas, recommendations or questions to chicopeeculturalcouncil@yahoo.com.

Applications for grants must be submitted by Oct. 16 on the Massachusetts Cultural Council website at www.mass-culture.org.
