The Hilltowns include areas of Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden counties west of and above the hills bordering the Connecticut River rift valley. This is a rolling, wooded, lightly populated area of Massachusetts, and contains several important wildlife habitat areas and watersheds. Residents of the area are intimately familiar with New England’s fifth season – mud!
